Jewelpet Magical Change Episode 2 Review

:: 6.15.25 | 15:29

Hai there, my princesses and princes! It’s me, Kanna. Well.. I think you may have already known that from the webpage title! ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!

Anywho, today I was able to watch my first episode of anime for the first time in a long time. Regarding this anime in particular, Jewelpet Magical Change, I haven’t watched anything since the first episode in October 2024. It’s now June 2025, but I’m glad I was able to carve out some time of my day to see the second episode..! I kind of had the time to, because my website wasn’t updating at all on Neocities/Nekoweb. 😓

This anime was released in the Spring season of 2015. If I think back to those times, I was struggling with the overall conflict of choosing to fit in or not with my classmates, and being a general outcast who got bullied at times, especially after my best friend of three years had abruptly moved away during the school year. However, it was the second to last school year for me in elementary school (as I was only 10 years old during this time). Anime like this makes me wish that I lived in Japan and understood Japanese fluently, especially during my childhood. Call me a weeaboo if you’d like, I don’t really care, the main reason why is because anime like this could’ve comforted me if it wasn’t for the language and cultural gap between USA and Japan that possibly kept a localization team from forming to transport this anime here. There’s always that question if Western audiences will enjoy certain children’s anime, as it appears it’s always an experiment for the distributors, like how Ojamajo Doremi aired on 4Kids in the early 2000’s, but I somehow didn’t catch it on air, practically ever, even though I was watching TV a lot during my early childhood (and I turned out fine ☺️). I would’ve remembered it if I saw it on that old VCR TV we had, because it’s a show with a primarily female cast with bright colors.. That was the formula that The Powerpuff Girls (1998) had, and that was my primary obsession for around 10+ or so years. Anyways, returning back to Jewelpet, the reason why I believe this anime would comfort me is because songs such as the first ending song (unsure if there are more) focus on themes like being impatient for your dream to come true, even if you may be considered “too young” to make it happen.

I feel like the character Labra can really resonate to these verses in the song, “Tell me! Tell me!”, as judging what happened to her in the second episode. What happened was basically, the protagonist, Kirara made chicken curry for the whole family, but she forgot the red pickles, or fukujinzuke. Labra is determined to go shopping by herself to bring home the big prize (the pickles,,of course!) and contribute to the big meal everyone’s going to have. After lots of humorous ups and downs, Labra transforms into her human form thanks to Kirara’s magical pendant and she’s able to reach the pack of red pickles. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Kirara has a OP magical pendant that can transform the Jewelpets into living human beings in the flesh ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!

When I write reviews, it’s not meant to be an entire recap of the episode, I mainly just want to get my thoughts out of the way and briefly summarize the episode, so keep that in mind if you’d like to read more of my reviews in the near future..! Anywho, everyone comes home, as the Kirara household was spying on Labra the entire time on her way to get the red pickles because she needs supervision, she’s practically a baby cub, but not distract or upset her enough to become demotivated. Everyone is chowing down until Airi’s brother realizes there’s no onions, which upsets the entire family.. So yeah, that was part B of the episode basically, the part A one was the antagonist, Laura’s backstory of how she’s romantically obsessed with Airi’s big brother, Sakutarō. I feel kind of bad for her but also, learning about those struggles kind of humanized her a bit for me! At first, I honestly found her annoying, and Iori from Idolm@ster is way better than her in terms of a character archetype, but now, I don’t want to cruelly compare the two, heh heh. On another note and my dark past aside, I am enjoying this anime and I can’t wait to watch more tomorrow! Ruby and her human transformation from episode 1 is very cute! I wanna draw myself in the Jewelpet art style too as well! Yay! Ok, thanks for reading this! Let’s go eat sushi or something,,,

Love, Kanna
